First Black Pope
"Advent"
(Alter Arts)
www.firstblackpope.com
First Black Pope rise from the ashes of Frükteti,
a gothic/ industrial outfit that for many years was
the
black rose on the lapel of their hometown Padova (and
of Italy in general).
Scar, Skelectric e Macho (respectively: voice and
programming, keyboards, drums and guitar) keep
on dissecting the negative, the abnormal, the dark
side; on severely criticizing the (catholic) church;
on "giving a voice to the demons that nest in
men's spirits, feeding their fears, tension, anxiety,
perversions and doubts".
"Advent" is virtually divided into two "sides".
Side A ("Confession") definitely rushes
on an EBM/ harsh electro track, in a Hocico fashion
(a band they also played live with a few times). In
other words: tough beats that urge bodies to
shake, and captivating melodies.
Side B ("Penance") is more arduous and oppressive,
influenced by Throbbing Gristle's old
school industrial music. "Advent" is an
album made out of perversions, sins, and bad omens.
No room for light and no redemption in FBP's world.
Regardless of trends and allergic to compromise, these
guys demonstrate once again
they can compete with their international colleagues.
